Scott Hansen

VP, Engineering Lead & Manager · JPMorganChase

I build reliable products and lead teams that ship with clarity. Currently focused on advertising and recommendation systems, with a habit of writing down what I learn along the way.

Background

I've spent over ten years at JPMorganChase, growing from a Software Engineer Program intern into an engineering lead and manager, mostly inside advertising and recommendation platforms for Chase's digital products. Along the way I've learned that career growth isn't about doing the same job faster. It's a series of different jobs, each one defined by how much ambiguity you're trusted to own. That idea, and a handful of others about how engineers actually get better at their craft, are the reason this blog exists.

Outside of my day job, I write about the patterns I see repeating across engineering: running LLMs as system components rather than assistants, designing performance tests that actually answer a question, and mapping the workflow habits emerging around AI-assisted development. I hold a patent for a machine-learning-based system for tracking contributory payments, and I've twice placed first in JPMorgan's internal Innovation Week hackathon.

Off the clock

I'm a bike enthusiast, gravel riding on weekends and commuting by bike the rest of the week. I also keep a small zen meditation practice, and I cook a lot, which is what led me to build Scott's Cookbook.
